Q: Do you organize litter pick events?

A: We are passionate about making Chertsey a clean and safe place to live. Our aim is to organise one community litter pick event each month once government restrictions allow, as well as support other local groups that are arranging clean-ups in Runnymede and the surrounding area.

In the meantime, we encourage individuals and small family bubbles to pick up litter, following current government guidelines. You are welcome to post on our Facebook page if you would like to meet up with other members, and we encourage you to post photos of your efforts.

Q: Where can I get rubbish bags?

A: We have volunteers who hold stocks of Runnymede Borough Council bags in and around Chertsey. Please send us an email at Chertseycleanup@gmail.com to arrange collection or drop off.

Q: Are litter pickers and high vis vests provided?

A:  We have a supply of high vis vests, and a selection of litter pickers that can be borrowed. If you wish to purchase your own litter picker these can be found on Ebay or Amazon.

Q: What should I do with rubbish once it has been collected?

A: Once you have finished your litter pick, make sure the bag is sealed and please place the bag next to your closest council rubbish bin. Take a photo and note the location. Then either upload to the Facebook group or you can email us at : Chertseycleanup@gmail.com

Q: Can children get involved?

A: Yes, children are very welcome as long as they are under close parental supervision.

Q: What do I do if I find nitrous oxide (NOS) canisters?

A: You can’t recycle nitrous oxide canisters in standard recycling but if you save them, we can get them recycled. As you litter pick, please collect them and arrange to drop them off to one of our volunteers for recycling. We are looking to collect and donate to a local drug awareness charity.

Q: What do I do if I find syringes, sharps, batteries, asbestos or other chemicals?

A: Please do not touch these materials. Instead, take a photograph, record the location of the item and report it to the Council for removal. www.runnymede.gov.uk/article/17790/litter-and-flytipping-form
