We’ve had two brilliant sessions at the Chertsey Community Garden over the past couple of weeks, and things are really starting to come together!

Session 3

Last week, we continued work on raised bed number two, digging it out and preparing the soil for planting. We were lucky to receive two beautiful donated jasmine plants, which we planted by the pergola—these will be perfect for climbing and adding some wonderful fragrance as they grow.

We also planted some lovely ornamental grass plants kindly donated by Vicky, and gave all the beds a much-needed drink after a warm day. We even made a start on digging out raised bed number three, which will become our sensory and herb garden.

Today’s session was a fantastic success! We were joined by lots of new and returning volunteers, and the energy and community spirit were amazing.

We had plenty of plant donations, and we’re so grateful to everyone who brought something along. A huge thank you to Stepgates Primary School for donating a load of wood chip, which helped us complete raised bed number one—it’s now fully planted and looking wonderful.

Raised bed number two was filled with the rest of the donated plants, and we also completed bed number three, our sensory and herb garden. We’re just waiting on a few more herbs to complete the space—things like mint, more lavender, and some extra jasmine to make it as fragrant and calming as possible.

And finally, we made a start on bed number four, which will become our wildlife-friendly raised bed. We began digging it out today, and we’re really looking forward to bringing it to life with pollinator-friendly planting.

We just want to say a huge thank you to everyone who has volunteered, donated plants, or simply come by to show their support. The garden is growing into something really special, and we couldn’t do it without you.

Stay tuned for more updates—we’ve still got plenty to do, but we’re loving every step of the journey!
